Hot and fresh from the show floor (and quickly before it gets too busy around here) here are some quick pictures of the new MacBook Pro.

Macworld Nerd Update: John G. just tipped us off to the fact that Apple announced an exchange program for Developer Transition Kit owners. If you paid your dues earlier this year to get a Developer Transition Kit machine on which to build and test Intel binaries, you probably expected to send that machine back soon and get bupkis in return. Turns out Apple will now replace that machine for a new Intel-based Mac, free of charge. You don't even have to pay shipping! MegaHooray for Apple, and thanks, John!

Macworld Meta Update: If you check out the picture at the top of this Gizmondo post, you can see my hands on the left taking the very close-up picture of the power connector you can view above. Now that's Internet Trippy!

The machine sounds great, but the name is absolutely atrocious.

I have to agree, the machine is cool the name, however sucks! Does this mean iBooks are going to change their names aswell?

I can't wait for the MacMac Pro though...

The PowerBook name was created long before the PowerPC existed. I liked it and I'll miss it.

The new laptop is named "MacBook Pro" which probably means that the iBook will become the "MacBook" (that is, without the "Pro").

I'd have settled for a CoreBook. Oh well. I can see a market in third-party-unofficial-mac-name-stickers...

The keyboard looks different... is that new, italics on the modifier keys, rounded key cap edges etc etc etc etc?

I agree with John. iBook will probably be renamed to MacBook. I do agree that CoreBook sounds better though.

I was wondering if you could tell us how hot it felt, how easy it was for the power cord to come out (how hard a yank on the cord?) and how long OS X reported the battery as being able to last, as I can't find any mention of how long it'll last on the site.

Providing the answers to the above questions aren't particularly bad, I'm counting down the days until I can go to the apple store and actually buy one of these things, my little 800Mhz iBook G4 is starting to show its age a little.

Nice photos. A potential bug with your image display script though: If you hover over the other thumbnails while viewing a photo full size, that thumbnail will replace the photo in the open viewer.

If that makes any sense.

The "bug" Olafur mentions could be a cool feature if there were some way to mouse over the pics behind the popped image. In any case, a cool display implementation.

I'm guessing the bug Olafur found comes from Cabels preloading. I suspect he preloads the image on.mouseover so that when you click a thumbnail it doesn't have to load the full image.

I couldn't agree more with the guy that wrote about the kick ass zoom feature of the images. I am currently building a personal image gallery, and, since I want the look but like to figure these things out for myself, you've just added about four months of work to it. Way to go.

Very, very nice. I especially like the JS injections to keep the code clean although it does make it harder to figure out what the Fs going on :-)
